Kayak Adventures for Beginners and Explorers

Lake Biwa is perfect for a relaxing kayak ride or an adventurous paddle. Choose from two courses: a 1-hour beginner route where you might spot turtles and wild birds, or a 2-hour Adventure Kayak course for intermediate paddlers. The adventure course takes you out to a floating lakeside temple called Ukimido and through tunnels of overhanging trees — it’s packed with exciting, Instagrammable moments!

Try SUP for the First Time on Calm Waters

SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding) is a super fun way to cruise across the lake while standing on a big board. The calm, glassy surface makes it beginner-friendly, too. You can lie down on the board, try a bit of yoga, or jump right into the water on hot days. It’s an easy, flexible way to enjoy Lake Biwa at your own pace.

Bike Around Lake Biwa With a Rental Cycle

O′PAL also rents out all kinds of bikes, perfect for exploring the famous Biwaichi cycling route that circles the entire lake. It’s a dream ride for cycling lovers, with beautiful nature, historical towns, and local culture along the way. If you’re short on time, go for the 5-hour south lake course instead. Not sure which route to pick? The friendly staff can help recommend one based on your plans.

Kid-Friendly Water Fun — Roll Around in a Water Tuber!

No need to change into swimwear for this one! Step inside a giant, see-through inflatable tube and roll around on the water. It’s a fun, new kind of water activity that’s safe for kids 4 and up — and of course, grown-ups too. A perfect family-friendly adventure where you won’t even get wet.
