Stunning Fall Views at Kurenai Suspension Bridge — Romantic by Day and Night
One of Nasu-Shiobara’s most iconic fall spots is Kurenai Suspension Bridge, a 52.5-meter bridge over the Hōkigawa River. In fall, vibrant fall leaves surround the bridge, creating a scene that feels straight out of a painting. Peak season runs from late October to mid-November, and at night the bridge is beautifully illuminated, adding a magical touch. Nearby, you can enjoy a meal at the café restaurant Lamp on the second floor of Shiobara Monogatari-kan, with views of the bridge.
A Peaceful Blend of Imperial Architecture and Fall Color at Emperor’s Room Memorial Park
This quiet park features relocated buildings from the former Shiobara Imperial Villa, once used as a summer retreat by the Imperial Family in the first half of the 20th century. Relax in Historic Onsen: Shiobara Onsenkyo & Itamuro Onsen
Nasu-Shiobara is home to two well-known onsen areas surrounded by nature. Shiobara Onsenkyo stretches along a river and features 11 different types of spring water—clear, milky white, greenish, golden, brown, black, and pale gray—often referred to as the “seven-color baths.” Itamuro Onsen, tucked deep in the mountains, is a traditional onsen known in Japan as Shimotsuke no Yakuyu, a medicinal onsen. With water that’s gentle on the skin, you can soak slowly and experience the traditional standing-bath style.
